SPA & WELLNESS Centres are specialised environments, without accommodation, who welcome clients for a wide range of complementary treatments (healing or wellbeing), such as massages, cosmetics, beauty and rejuvenation, gymnastics, energy enhancement, aroma therapy, and general relaxing. These centres are nicely and purposefully decorated and are staffed with well trained specialists and therapists whose full concentration is to provide good therapy results and in-depth wellbeing feelings. Such centres usually use own, or carefully selected, cosmetic product brands (usually and mostly based on natural ingredients) which enhance the results of treatments and wellbeing.
SPA & WELLNESS Centres are widely available in Thailand. Almost each high-class hotel has such services, either own or outsourced. Physicians and specialists have also established their own private clinics/spa-centres in which they apply their knowledge. Treatments can come as “packages” combining several variations of applications and can last up to a full day, or individual treatments can be chosen out of a list of such applications, more tailor-made to the needs and requirements of each person, and can last for couple to several hours.
More information about complementary treatments and massages is available under "Library, Complementary Medicine".
Massages:
Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, forearm, and feet. There are over eighty different recognized massage modalities. The most cited reasons for introducing massage as therapy have been client demand and perceived clinical effectiveness.
In professional settings massage involves the client being treated while lying on a massage table, sitting in a massage chair, or lying on a mat on the floor. The massage subject may be fully or partly unclothed. Parts of the body may be covered with towels or sheets.
