ACL Knee Surgery
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a strong elastic band of tissue in the center of the knee that provides strength and stability to the knee joint. The function of the anterior cruciate ligament is to limit rotation and forward movement of the leg bone. The need for ACL knee surgery is most often caused by injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament as a result of direct impact such as a sudden twisting motion. ACL knee surgery involves reattaching the torn ends of the ligament or reconstructing the torn ligament by using a piece of healthy ligament.
Herniated Disc
A herniated disc also sometimes referred to as a slipped disc is a condition where the spinal discs which cushion the bones that form the spine are damaged. This can cause the herniated disc to press against the nerves from the spinal cord, which can result in back pain and loss of motion. In most cases a herniated disc is treated by means of non-surgical treatment. If surgery is required the following are the most common herniated disc surgeries:

Hip Replacement
Total hip arthroplasty or hip replacement, is a surgical procedure in which the diseased parts of the hip joint are removed and replaced with new, artificial parts called the prosthesis. The prosthesis can either be cemented or uncemented. The most common reason to have total hip arthroplasty surgery is due to degeneration of the hip joint caused by arthritis. A total hip arthroplasty can improve the mobility of the hip and relieve the patient from pain.
Hip Resurfacing
Hip resurfacing is a procedure that replaces the damaged outer surfaces of the hip joint. Hip resurfacing is mainly used for younger, more active people with pain and disability due to hip deterioration. A total hip replacement is normally not ideal for young and active people because they will put too much stress on the replaced hip resulting in the need for another hip replacement a few years later. Less bone is removed with hip resurfacing than with a total hip replacement and it usually feels normal after surgery. If a total hip replacement is eventually necessary this is possible after hip resurfacing.
Knee Replacement
Total knee arthroplasty or knee replacement is a surgical procedure where the damaged parts of the knee joint are replaced with artificial parts. Arthritis to the knee is the main reason to have a total knee arthroplasty, and surgery is considered when knee pain and reduced mobility becomes a serious problem that can no longer be treated by medications and other treatments.Total knee arthroplasty surgery can improve the function of the knee but it can’t achieve same level of mobility as a normal knee.
Meniscus Knee Surgery
The meniscus is a tough C-shaped cartilage, which has the function of distributing the body weight across knee joint. Actually the meniscus consists of two menisci, an inner and an outer meniscus. Furthermore, it prevents the thighbone and the shinbone from grinding against each other. Meniscus knee surgery is often needed as a result of sports injuries. Older people can also experience meniscus tear due to cartilage degeneration over time. Initial treatment of a meniscus tear is rest as small tears may heal by themselves. If this is not sufficient meniscus knee surgery is necessary. Common types of meniscus knee surgery are removal of the meniscus, repair of the meniscus, and ligament reconstruction.
Shoulder & Elbow Replacement
Shoulder and elbow replacement is a procedure where surfaces of the joint are replaced with artificial joints made of either metal or plastic. The procedures are also called shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. The main reason to have a shoulder or elbow replacement is arthritis causing pain and decreased mobility. If the pain and lack of mobility is affecting your quality of life, a shoulder or elbow replacement should be considered. A shoulder or elbow replacement cannot be expected to last more than ten years.
Spinal Stenosis
Lumbar spinal spinosis is a narrowing of the spinal cord, which can cause severe pain due to compression of the nerves. Lumbar spinal stenosis primarily affects middle-aged and elderly people and can be caused by osteoarthritis or injury. Initially lumbar spinal stenosis is treated by means of rest, physical therapy and medications. However, if this is not effective in relieving the patient from pain surgery should be considered. Surgery is currently the only treatment designed and proven to provide long term relief from lumbar spinal stenosis. Different types of spinal stenosis surgery are available including laminectomy, laminotomy, foraminotomy, and spinal fusion.
